Well-known Australia women

The Three Sisters

Beryl, Mary and Violet were three sisters from Scarborough, U.K. who visited Echo Point before the fence was put up. Beryl tripped, grabbed Mary who grabbed Violet, and then the three of them cascaded over the edge. The incident gave rise to the name Three Sisters And A Coach Driver, however the coach driver in question managed to hang onto a nearby stone monument and was saved. He still drives a Murrays coach today.

The Olgas

Formerly called 'The Brolgas', after the dancing bird, for over thirty years a famous Hollywood type sign erected by the Lake Amadeus Council adorned the top of these formations. During the Depression vandals destroyed a part of the sign, and Lake Amadeus Council, itself in financial crisis, never replaced the letters. The place subsequently became known as 'The Olgas.'

Mrs Macquarie

The wife of Governor Lachlan Macquarie had a seat carved out of a twenty ton rock promontory on Sydney Harbour so that she could do her needlework undisturbed. It became later known as 'Lady Macquarie's Chair' even though her husband never got his knighthood.
