1880 - The Man In The Iron Cask
(A note about bushrangers, something about the others and this one is the most famous of them all)
Gaoled three years
For stealing a horse,
When Ned gets out,
He feels bellicose.
With stepfather George,
And brother Dan,
He rustles cattle,
And wears a can.
When Mum gets nicked
For breaching the peace,
The Kellys attack
The local police.
They rob a small bank,
Hold up a wee town,
Then make a last stand
At Glenrowan.
Holed up in the pub,
They're captured by ruse,
Gang gets bullet,
Ned gets the noose.
The case grows famous
Supporters labour,
Ned Kelly becomes
A cause celebre.
The message is clear
For the Poms to heed:
'Britain's convicts
We no longer need.
'When it comes to
The criminal clone,
Australia can now
Produce its own.'
