1770 - Fast Foreword
The English count their days from Caesar,
Americans from their Mayflower visa,
The Hebrews from their Lord's creation
And Indians from annihilation.
Some fancy races like the German
Trace their time from a king called Herman,
While Arabs from Mohammed time deduce,
And Greeks trace themselves right back to Zeus.
It must be lovely for all these tribes
To start from such lofty prototypes,
For none of them would be very wrapped in
Counting their days from a simple Captain.
Buckles, breeches, telescope, book,
We cherish our little Captain Cook.
We love this honest reckless sailor
For running slap into Australia.
